Spellshooter is back after fourteen years.
In 2012 a small word-action game called Spellshooter appeared on the iOS App Store. The idea was simple enough to explain in a sentence: aim a cannon loaded with a letter, fire it into a wall of tiles, and spell words to clear them. The execution was scrappy, the art was hand-drawn, and it found a small group of players who were oddly devoted to it. Then, like a lot of one-person games from that era, it went quiet.
It never entirely went away. Over the following decade a trickle of messages kept arriving: could the game come back, could it run on a new phone, could there be a daily puzzle. We kept the original design notes, the sprite sheets, and a notebook full of modes that never shipped because there was no time to build them. In 2026 there finally was.
Rebuilt, not remastered
Spellshooter 2 is a from-scratch successor, not a port. We started from the 2012 materials and asked what the game would have been with a modern engine and a few more years of ideas. The core loop is untouched: aim, bank, spell. Almost everything around it is new.
- Sharper physics. Bank shots are the heart of the game, so the new engine treats them seriously. Tiles land exactly in the gap the aim line entered, and a well-planned rebound feels like skill rather than luck.
- Daily Challenge. One board a day, seeded from the date, identical for every player. It is the mode people asked for most often.
- Animated worlds. Boards live in alpine scenes that shift as you play, with more to unlock over time.
- Modes the original never had. Clear 'Em score-attack and Endless are free. Rush, Zen, and a full Campaign arrive with the one-time Deluxe unlock.
What stayed the same on purpose
The first game respected your time. You opened it, you played, you closed it. Spellshooter 2 keeps that promise — no account to create, no tutorial that holds you hostage, and no energy meter. Your personal best is tracked on your device. If you want to compare scores with friends or on a global board, leaderboards are there, but they are opt-in and you can switch them off at any time.
We also kept the pricing philosophy: free to play, with a single optional purchase. Deluxe is a one-time unlock, not a subscription, and it removes rewarded ads along with adding modes.
How it was built
Snowshack is a very small studio, and Spellshooter 2 is the first product built with our current approach: modern, AI-assisted development with every change reviewed and covered by automated tests before it lands. That is how a game this size gets bank-shot physics, daily challenges, a tutorial, leaderboards, and store integration in months rather than years, without cutting corners on the parts that handle your data or your money.
